2022 Meeting dates:


For just £25 you get a season of stimulating evening talks by big names in gardening, and visits to iconic gardens in the summer months. Why not come and join us?

All meetings, unless otherwise noted, are on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30 pm in Oxenhope Community Centre.

Admission, unless otherwise noted, is £5 for non members, members free. Membership is £25 per year.

COVID precautions will be strictly adhered to.

20th January John Grimshaw John will speak about 'A Plantsmans Garden in North Yorkshire'.

He is director of the Yorkshire Arboretum

17th February Michael & Alison Mitchell Michael and Allison are the owners of gold medal winning Slack Top Nursery.

Their talk, entitled '4 Seasons at Slack Top' will be about how to create an alpine trough and the best alpine plants to grow in this area and also how to grow these plants in other garden situations such as in scree beds and on gravel. They will also bring plants to sell.

Slack Top Nursery, one of the UK’s top five specialist growers of alpine plants is located high up in Heptonstall in a lovely setting overlooking the moors.
They are hoping to have a few Open Days at the nursery this Spring, and the first provisional dates are Friday 11th & Saturday 12th March. This may change depending on what the Covid situation is at the time, and also on the weather (as they can often be under a foot of snow in March), so please check here for any updates prior to travelling.
17th March Paul Cook Paul will speak about New Developments at Harlow Carr
Paul is Curator at RHS Harlow Carr.
21st April Katy Merrington Katy is Cultural Gardener at The Barbara Hepworth Garden, Wakefield.
She will speak about how to ensure that successional layers of colour can be built into the earliest months of the year, working with sweet-scented shrubs, perennials, blossoms and bulbs, and will also talk about how they have planted 60,000 bulbs amongst the perennials at The Hepworth and will share inspiring planting combinations, techniques for extending spring interest and good aftercare to encourage re-flowering.
Katy has worked in some of the best gardens in the UK and USA including Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh at Logan, Dumfries & Galloway, Tresco Abbey Garden, Isles of Scilly and Longwood Gardens: Pennsylvania, USA. At The Hepworth Wakefield Katy has nurtured the garden from the construction phase onwards, working closely with Tom Stuart-Smith to build a flourishing oasis rich in successional colour and character.

The Hepworth Wakefield has rapidly established itself as one of the key cultural destinations in the north of England. The gallery has been enhanced by newly created gardens created by renowned designer Tom Stuart-Smith and gardened by Katy Merrington. This unique space is free to all visitors and open 24-hours a day, year round. But this is no ordinary public garden. Here is a rich and varied, contemporary space of the utmost flower-filled creativity that both delights and inspires.

19th May Plant sale

The plant sale will be held on Thursday, May 19th at 7.30 pm. There will be a wonderful collection of plants for sale and a delicious selection of cakes to be enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee, not forgetting the opportunity of winning something good in the raffle. Members donating plants should aim to arrive around 7pm.(or earlier!)

The coach will cost £20 and we will be asking members who wish to join the trip for a £10 non-refundable deposit at the April meeting - Cancelled
RHS members will have free access to the gardens

We are very sorry but unfortunately, due to the very low numbers signed up to the visit to Renishaw Hall, (13), we have had to cancel the trip. We needed to do this now in order to give enough notice of the cancellation to the coach hire company. Your deposits will be returned to you in full. Once again, we are very sorry we have had to cancel.
